Mortis

This piece is part of my appreciations to morbidity and ghoulish tendencies.

Wake me
from my slumber
Call my name
Forsake not
my grave

Sing a sweet
lachrymose lullaby

Let darkness
take over
Risen corpses
in glee
My soul
be enslaved

Bulan

The wickedly winsome
the empyrean queen,
In a castle of infinity,
Placid clouds on guard.

With borrowed light
she shines with splendor
With her comforting glaze,
She reigns

In the sleepy blackness,
On her dominion of stars
With irresistible prankishness,
She casts her spell

A beauty with hypnotic charms,
Retire! that’s her lullaby,
With her breath of sweet zephyr,
At dawn she bids good-bye.
Verve promises of hopes and dreams.

The story behind the verses:

This one is a bit lighter and a deviation from my other unpublished poems. Mythology is a lush garden of literary inspiration, I should say. I'm not an expert when it comes to deities and all that jazz but hey, I managed to scribble a verse for the moon goddess two years ago. Now that's something. :)

Choosing the title is a challenge though and I may have to change it one of these days. I'm currently working on the second verse - the darker face of the moon.

Threnody of a Forgotten Grave

This one's for you Aunt Lydia. May you rest in peace.

Hear ye passerby!
Here lies a poor waif,
In a casket of sorrow'
In a bed of grief.

In a crypt,
Damp and morose.
Her soul, fatigued
Her quest, over.

Her pain, washed up
To the bowels of the earth.
May the doldrums come.
Take this weak and woebegone.

I am finished passerby!
 Go.

Mariposa

Ezili, Venus, Aphrodite,Isis,Ishtar and Astarte- they inhabit the minds of living women throughout history. Like Lepidopterans, they are mysterious, dark, beautiful and noble in their own rights.

The night charmer
Meek and lecherous
Infectious eccentricities
Crisp, euphonious songs

The ardent lover
She seeks light,
She found flame
Flickering happiness

The nocturnal butterfly
Hypnotized
Intoxicated
Promises of salvation

The beautiful soul
Sweet caramel skin
She bids farewell
She dwells…

Nox Atterrima

The agony of a poor soul is more than the grip of dementia. Beyond cognitive dysfunction. It is the darkest night.

Left out here in chaos
Scratching the walls
of oblivion
Cold as hell, hot as heaven

Pointblank visions
Now in a blur.
My head itched
for something.

Convulsive notions
of love and animosity
Vague.
I grasp with hands in palsy.

I pray, rescue me
For I am
Fragile as crystal

frigid as ice.

We Wept

By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down. Ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion. - - - Boney M. ( Rivers Of Babylon)

Zion, oh Zion!
Your people needs a bastion.
With enslaved souls in woe,
Hearts in pain , in throe.

Zion beloved Zion!
Your people wept for you.
Troubled and weary in Babylon,
Let them rest in your bosom.

Zion, mighty Zion!
When will be the day?
Your people dwell free
Out from the Bastille of Grief.

The radio's on. I have my notepad with me and there is nothing else better to do so why not think of oppression?

Repose

When dusk came, all is gone,
Heyday is over
In a solitary  hearse.
There it stays

The journey to Hades is long
Charon there awaits
at the banks of Styx,
Under brain-colored sky

Icy and silent he stands
In his cloak of death.
Suddenly, a cloudburst.
Blazing bolt and thunder

The interment begins.
The sepulcrum closes,
Happiness is wailing
Longing to rest.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings.- W. B. Yeats

I Am

Let me tell you about myself.
I am a puppet with no strings,
The brain trusts are my masters
And hypocrisy is my game.

My lips, crimson,
My wooden limbs, blatant
I got high-flown skirt,
And wits between my feet.

We are polliwogs swimming in a vast and dangerous pond of life. We can either stick back to our jelly case or swim and explore. And me? I chose to live a complicated life in the corporate world.

Quixotic Wander

I owe this piece to el ingenioso hidalgo. He helped me reached the unreachable by just gazing at the stars from the plateaus of La Mancha.

Scent of weariness filled the air
Enthralled my heart in despair
My writhing soul in solitude
Grieved and lonely as I strode.

Wish I could wail,
Leave sorrows behind my trail,
But that’s beyond my will,
For I am a prisoner still

On quests I have to be,
To follow that star zenith me,
With my saddle of dreams,
I shall prevail it seems

I shall claim that mighty guerdon ,
Of honor, dignity and hope reborn,
With audible hails and cheers
Off I go and shall have no fear.
